Berberine is a bright yellow alkaloid found in many plants including Berberis aristata. Berberine has been shown to activate an enzyme called AMPK which may be involved in maintaining healthy metabolism in normal individuals.

AMPK is partly responsible for supporting normal glucose uptake into cells which may help support healthy blood sugar balance in healthy individuals and support energy metabolism.
